The Massachusetts Dept. of Agricultural Resources (MDAR) will host its ‘Snacks & Farm Chats’ informational session in Middleborough for farmers and landowners interested in learning about enrolling in the Agricultural Preservation Restriction (APR) Program.
MDAR welcomes all interested farmers and landowners to the Middleborough Public Library for free snacks and refreshments, followed by a conversation about the benefits of placing land into APR. Interested parties are requested to RSVP here in advance.
Faced with rising land costs, Massachusetts is projected to lose much of its farmland if action is not taken. The APR program provides funding directly to farmers to preserve access to farmlands for generations to come. Approximately $10 million in funding is available through the program this year. APR has protected close to 1,000 farms totaling over 75,000 acres in its more-than 40-year history.
