Wildlands Trust is looking for a highly experienced real estate attorney who is heading into retirement or semi-retirement, and may be looking to volunteer his or her expertise to advance land protection in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
Wildlands Trust is one of the largest regional land trusts in the State of Massachusetts. Since 1973, we have worked to protect natural lands that offer important benefits to the diverse cities and towns of Southeastern Massachusetts. The lands we protect ensure that communities will have open space, clean water, clean air, fresh local foods, healthy wildlife, beautiful vistas, and lasting recreational opportunities. Wildlands’ land protection efforts have yielded tremendous conservation returns for our region and its 1.2 million residents. We have built a portfolio of 250 protected parcels located throughout 38 towns. Building and maintaining trails systems is an important component of the services we provide.
If this opportunity interests you, we’d like to talk about how you can collaborate with our staff on a volunteer basis for approximately 8 to 10 hours per week. We will ask you to assist with a wide range of conservation and stewardship matters, including drafting deeds for acquisition of land by Wildlands, drafting correspondence related to enforcement of restrictions, reviewing conservation restrictions, analyzing easements and compiling memoranda of understanding with landowners. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in completing real estate transactions, excellent communication and problem-solving skills, familiarity with conservation restrictions, and a passion for the outdoors and land conservation. Of course, your willingness to do this work on a pro bono basis is essential, as is a license to practice law in Massachusetts.
The selected candidate will be joining an outstanding group of committed land trust practitioners. In exchange for your volunteer hours, we will provide you with collegial co-workers, a hot lunch from time to time, lots of opportunities to hike and stay active and an office space at Davis-Douglas Farm, our beautiful headquarters property located in Plymouth.
