VolunTuesday (on a Wednesday!) - Mark's Cove Conservation Area

  • Marks Cove Conservation Area Parker Drive Wareham, MA, 02571 United States (map)

Wildlands (and Diamondback Terrapins) needs your help!

Join Wildlands Trust stewardship staff Zoë and Owen along with Krill Carson, a marine biologist and President of New England Coastal Wildlife Alliance who creates and manages numerous turtle gardens around the South Coast. The focus of this project will be to create two Diamondback Terrapin nesting gardens that will hopefully encourage turtles to not nest in the powerline ROW where illegal ORV activity regularly takes place. All experience levels are welcome, registration is required.

Krill will train participants in garden creation, monitoring, and maintenance techniques. *This project will require digging, raking, weeding, lopping, and wheelbarrowing. Marks Cove Conservation Area is managed in collaboration with Wareham Land Trust, Town of Wareham, Mass Audubon, and the Buzzards Bay Coalition. The property features three short loops of trails, with retired cranberry bogs, coastal forest and marsh views.

The volunteer day will last from 9:30am-12pm. Volunteers are required to register as there are limited spaces. Questions? Contact Stewardship Programs Manager Zoë Smiarowski at zsmiarowski@wildlandstrust.org.
