Art Desloges: Local Environmental Issues

  • Wildlands Trust, Inc. 675 Long Pond Road Plymouth, MA 02360 (map)

Join HPWA & Wildlands Trust at our Conservation Barn for a presentation and discussion with Art Desloges on several local environmental issues.

Art Deloges participated in the committee that formulated the Climate Action and Adaptation Plan and will give an overview of the Plan and answer your questions. He is also on the new Master Plan committee and will welcome your questions on it as well as your ideas as to what is important to include in this working plan for the next couple decades to help Plymouth grow sensibly and sustainably.

Following the decommissioning of the Pilgrim Nuclear Power Plant in Plymouth, Holtec, the company decommissioning the plant planned to discharge 1.1 million gallons of radioactive waste water into Cape Cod Bay. Art will present the Save our Bay (SOMBA) campaign to stop these plans from exposing communities and the environment to toxic waste. Hear about how the SOMBA group organized nearby towns to pass resolutions banning this waste water discharge, organized public outcry, introduced state legislation, built grassroots support for this effort, and attracted national media attention. We will learn how this work compelled the Department of Environmental Protection to issue an interim determination to prevent Holtec from discharging this radioactive waste. Art will provide an update on the disposal of the remaining contaminated water.
