Brockton Programs

Green Team 2026 - Applications Coming this Spring!

Overview of Green Team

Green Team Brockton is part of the Wildlands Trust’s D.W. Field Park Initiative! This year’s Green Team offers a July and August session. Wildlands Trust and Manomet sponsor, design, and lead this program to introduce Brockton-area high school students to the conservation field and build their professional skills through community service.

Green Team is a paid summer service-learning program that engages teens in environmental stewardship in Brockton and the surrounding area. Crewmembers will complete outdoor projects at D.W. Field Park, Brockton’s largest park serving over 200,000 community members, as well as local schools and other parks. Projects are varied, with a focus on trail management, ecology, gardening, carpentry, environmental education, and teamwork. Daily discussions with local professionals expose crewmembers to career, volunteer, and civic engagement opportunities.

Each session’s crewmembers will have the opportunity to attend a (non-paid) campout at Wildlands Trust’s Stewardship Training Center in Plymouth. Transportation from Brockton to Plymouth will be provided.

Admission to these programs is highly competitive, as we can accept only 12 crewmembers per session. Applicants will only be hired for one session. Applicants available for both sessions are encouraged to apply for both to improve their chances of admission. Applications are now closed.

Green Team History & Future

Our Plymouth-based Green Team program ran for five summers from 2015 to 2019 and included ages 12 to 19. Plans for 2020 were interrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic.

In 2022, with funding from Wildlands’ D.W. Field Park Initiative, we organized a Brockton-based Green Team to complete projects at the park. In 2024, we added Climate Crew to our slate of Brockton programs! The Climate Crew ran at Hancock Elementary School and supported our Brockton Kids Lead the Way Project.

In 2025, we merged Climate Crew’s tasks into Green Team and offered both a July and August session, welcoming 23 crewmembers over six weeks. 2026 will offer a similar structure, with our application opening in March.
