January's hiking adventure with Malcolm is a beautiful hike next to restored cranberry bogs and through woods to the headwaters of Eel River. We will follow the stream, passing cranberry bogs that are returning to nature and a large copse of white cedar trees at the bogs. Leaving the bogs we proceed inland to Hoyts Pond, the headwater for the river. We will then back track a bit and take a woodland path to another cranberry bog system. Following the bog trail we will proceed through a woodland to an old but interesting cemetery. After the cemetery, we hike along to a beautiful old church on Long Pond Rd. Then back to the parking lot to complete our journey, a distance of about 4 miles.
