Seasonal Land Steward Training

Get your seasonal land stewards trained up for the summer at The Stewardship Training Center! Stewardship professionals from Wildlands Trust, Buzzards Bay Coalition, Town of Plymouth Natural Resources Department and Barnstable Land Trust are collaborating to present an introductory training program for seasonal land stewards. First Aid and CPR certifications will be provided by Certified Rescue Courses. The training will take place over two days (June 2 and 3, from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM each day).

Attendees will be trained in:

  • First Aid and CPR (Laminated certification cards valid for 2 years will be awarded at the end of the course. This program conforms to the 2020 American Heart Association (AHA) guidelines update for CPR and EEC)

  • Field safety

  • Basic carpentry and bench construction

  • Native and invasive plant ID and management techniques

  • Trail maintenance

  • Tool safety, use and maintenance (both power and hand tools)

  • Techniques for engaging with the public on conservation land

This training will be a great opportunity for seasonals to obtain training in core stewardship competencies, network with peers, and learn collaboratively from professional land stewards. Lunch for both days is included with registration. Overnight housing is available in dormitory style rooms for an additional fee (can be added on in registration).

The Stewardship Training Center is located at 549 Mast Road. Please follow the signs to the visitor parking lot.

What to wear and bring:

  • Sturdy, closed-toed shoes/boots

  • Field clothes (long shirt/t-shirt, long pants)

  • Weather gear (rain gear, sun protection, etc)

  • Water (also available inside the STC)
