Join Wildlands Trust and Duxbury Rural and Historical Society to remove invasive plants from a field on Clark’s Island in Duxbury Bay. This is a unique opportunity to visit Clark’s Island as the preserve is typically closed to public visitation.
The DRHS owns approximately 17 acres of land on Clark’s Island, located in Plymouth Bay. These holdings include land on the west shore, the eastern shore, Pulpit (Election) Rock, a boat house called Hop House, and the house property known as Cedarfield (built in 1836 and the second-oldest house on the island). The property was donated to the DRHS in 1969 by the Pilgrim Rock Foundation. The property had been part of the estate of Sarah Wingate Taylor (d. 1964). Read more about this unique property here.
This will be an extended VolunTuesday, so we are able to maximize our time and work out on the island! Volunteers will travel by boat leaving from the Duxbury Yacht Club at 8 AM. The focus will be clearing invasives (bittersweet/tree of heaven/mugwort etc...) around the Pulpit Rock, a significant historical site. Volunteers will use loppers, hand snips, shovels, rakes, and handsaws to remove invasive plants.
Wildlands Trust will provide a picnic lunch with sandwiches, snacks and water. While the project is planned from 8 AM-3 PM, volunteers will only be working between 9 AM and 2 PM with a break for lunch.
