Indian Head River Day 2025

Join the Indian Head River Coalition (a partnership between the NSRWA, Wildlands Trust, Towns of Hanover, Pembroke, Hanson, and Plymouth County) as we celebrate this amazing river and its surrounding land. Take part in a guided hike, kayak paddle, or BOTH!

Embark on a land or water adventure as we explore a unique and diverse habitat steeped in local history. Amazing flora and fauna, freshwater tidal marsh, wild rice, and migratory herring are all some of what can be found in and around the Indian Head River. Discover why the IHR Coalition has worked to preserve and protect this gem of the South Shore. Final schedule and registration to be released soon.

Meet at Hanover Public Launch, 2 Indian Head Dr, Hanover, MA 02339.

Parking:

There are several parking areas around the IHRT. The main parking area for this event will be the Hanover Public Launch located at 2 Indian Head Dr., Hanover MA. There is a parking lot and space to park along the road. You may also park at Luddam's Ford Park Hanover or Luddam's Ford Park Pembroke.

Tentative Schedule as of 3/24/25:

9:00 - 11:00 AM: Guided hike with Wildlands Trust. Register for the hike HERE.

Join us for a 4-5 mile hike on the Indian Head River Trail loop. We’ll begin at the Hanover Canoe Launch where we will walk the Mattakeeset Trail before crossing the street to hike the IHR Loop Trail.

9:30 - 11:00 AM: Guided kayak paddle with NSRWA #1. Register for paddle #1 HERE.

The paddle will be on slow-moving tidal water, previous kayak experience is recommended.

11:30 - 1:00 PM*: Guided kayak paddle with NSRWA #2. Register for paddle # 2 HERE.

The paddle will be on slow-moving tidal water, previous kayak experience is recommended.

For guided hike: Please wear appropriate footwear (hiking boots or sneakers) and bring water and snacks. The trail is hilly and the ground is uneven so please expect an arduous (and fun!) hike. Ages 10+. No pets allowed.

For the kayak trips: Bring your own vessel or borrow one of the NSRWA’s single kayaks. Ages 10 years and up ONLY. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Slow moving tidal water, previous kayak experience is recommended.

*Guided Kayak Paddle #2 will depart once the hikers have returned, allowing time for folks to attend both the hike and Kayak Paddle #2.

Outdoor programs are weather permitting. Cancellations and postponements due to weather will be announced online and registered attendees will be notified via email.
